breakfast

Few things let us forget all of the weekday worries and stresses than a delicious breakfast surrounded by friends and family in the West Island.

We Westislanders hold onto our brunch de choix with fierce loyalty, even in the face of friends prodding to try their so-called “best” brunch in town. With so many extraordinary offerings to choose from, for virtually any mood or taste, it’s hard not to want to check out the other contenders for best brunch.

Based on your votes, here is a list of the best breakfast restaurants in the West Island:

Le Dejeuner Cosmopolitan west island1.) Le Dejeuner Cosmopolitan

The breakfast menu at Le Dejeuner Cosmopolitain in Pointe Claire features dishes that you would not want to miss. The exquisite and light crêpe Suzettes will almost beg for an encore. Their offerings of Flambé crêpes are fantastic. Of particular mention, the Flambé pear selection is a pure heaven sent delicacy. For the sweet toothed breakfast connoisseur, there is the chocolate chip, banana, and strawberry topped Cosmo Royal Pancake, which is covered in a chocolate hazelnut sauce, suggesting a Nutella base. The portion sizes, unlike many comparable restaurants, match the quality of the food, from bottomless coffee, refilled regularly by delightful staff, to enough food to bring home for later.

portovino west island2.) Portovino

With all-you-can-eat and bring your own wine, what’s not to love? The buffet style fare at Portovino West Island leaves little room for want of variety. Whether you want salty, savory, meat, fish or any of your other buffet favorites, you’ll find enough for second on up to fourth helpings and beyond.

Even at $30, which is comparable for other buffets, the great variety and vast quantity of food offered makes it worth every cent. Bring your appetite and fill your plates with smoked salmon, eggs benedict, fruit dipped in the chocolate fountain, mini croissants, and short order crepes, waffles and omelets. There are more than enough flavors to satisfy and delight your mouth as well as your eyes.

portovino west island3.) Chez Cora

Chez Cora West Island is much better than you would expect from a chain restaurant, the mounds of fresh fruit accompanying their breakfast dishes add to the restaurant’s sunny atmosphere. Further adding to the style are the décor of plastic chickens and unique dish names, often inspired by favorite customers and family members. Their Eggs Ben et Dictine come with rich smoked salmon. The Gargantua features pancakes, two eggs, sausage, ham, cretons, baked beans, and fruit. The Banana Surprise, a favorite among kids, is an interpretation of a banana and chocolate or peanut butter and honey sandwich, wrapped in a pancake.

Dejeuner Inc west island4.) Dejeuner Inc

Dejeuner Inc in Dollard-Des-Ormeaux is the kind of place you would imagine when thinking of the classic breakfast spot. One that you might visit any day of the week. All of the breakfast classics, and then some, are covered in their menu offerings. With 16 categories, each with a number of options, and an entire page long drink section, you will find a dish to match any mood or craving you may have.

The manoir has one of the best breakfasts around. I guess it’s a tavern, not a restaurant, but still, the breakfast is my favorite.

I’m with all of you that are wondering why Petinos didn’t make the list! Brunch is my favourite meal of the day, and I think that Petinos does it the best. Good service, coffee, and variety. Fresh, hot food every time.

Personally, I think one of the worst breakfast restaurants in the West Island is Ben & Florentines.
The food is over priced and lacks in quantity and quality respectively.
As for their service, well it’s non existant as
they definately don’t have enough waiters and waitresses serving.
I have eaten there on a few occassions and highly doubt that I will be rushing to go back, nor will I try to convince my family and friends to give their support.

Personally, I think all the breakfast places are overpriced, I went with my son, he only had bacon and eggs and chocolate milk, I had an omelet and a juice. $30 plus tip, that’s crazy for breakfast. I could make a better breakfast at home.

Just goes to show that the West Island is really lacking in good choices…for any meal….Sorry….Id rather cook at home than eat mediocre food…

I did not think Dejeuner Inc should have made your list. The food there is very salty and the last time we were ther the waiter did not write down our order, both our orders came out wrong and we had to repeatly asked for coffee re-fills.

Dejeuner Inc. is probably one of the best if not the best restaurant for breakfast.
The portions are outrageous, the staff are professionally and efficient and the meals are always cooked to perfection.
When we order, we always ask for no spices, which includes no salt.
They have never let us down and have always delivered our food hot and the way we ordered it.
Also if the food and service was that bad, the place would not be lined up to get in.

I will never eat at Cosmopolitan again, since I have had 2 unpleasant episodes there, but yes, the food was quite good.

In addition, years ago, the owner called my husband a “fucking Jew” (not related to his restaurant)

Sorry, I don’t support or promote racism of ANY TYPE!

How could you not mention Petinos? Super friendly, huge choice, and great prices. Most importantly, they are consistant.

Funny you mention that! Going in, we thought Petinos would be up there in terms of the best breakfast spot, but very few people ended up voting for them, so we removed them from list and replaced it with other restaurants that people were suggesting instead.

Petinos didnt end up making the final cut and it seems like people have mixed feelings about the restaurant – http://www.westislandrestaurants.com/restaurant/petinos/
