  • Went for my friends 23rd birthday party last week, there were about 30 of us total…absolutely loved it! The night went really well, love the atmosphere in that place. Waiters were really friendly and polite. Shakes were amazing, burgers were huge! Definitely get your moneys worth…the restaurant was full when we got there so I guess business is going well. Ill definitely be back!!! Next time I wanna check out one of those mac and cheeses though!

I have been to jukebox three times in the last couple of months…loved it! Food was excellent, portions very generous, music was fun and atmosphere happy. I went on a Saturday night, Thursday afternoon and Monday, and all three times we had someone seating us and our food did not take too long, even on Saturday when it was packed. So, those who had a bad experience above were really unlucky…or, I’ve been super lucky, lol, don’t know which one.
I have already told quite a few people about this place and they can’t wait to try it.

      Thanks Elaine!

We strive to consistently deliver extraordinary value. Truth be told, it is a challenge that has to be met on with full determination every time a customer walks into the establishment. On the occasions that we fail, less than 1 percent of the time, we are quite likely to see a dissatisfied customer. Our goal is to bat 100%. In due course we will get there. Thanks for the encouragement,

      Derek

Terrible service, terrible service terrible service. I couldn’t believe it when we walked in there was no hostess at the door. It then took 40 mins before we had to go and find someone and another 25 mins before we were seated at the bar??? Did i mention we had made reservations??? Finally after 30 mins at the bar we were seated at a booth for 4 and we were 8. Needless to say it was not comfortable. We finally order and when the wrong meals are sent to our tablke i am furious. I ask to speak to a manager and explain that due to the fact that we are 8 sitting at a table for 4 i was unpleased enough, however my daughter has allergies to food which anyone with children who have food allergies know this is no laughing matter, to which he replies. You can always go somewhere else mame. needless to say we left and will never be returning!!!!!!

I’ve been here several times at night and never experienced this kind of amateur service before. After this, I don’t think I’ll ever come back

Sounds like we made many mistakes. Depending on the evening, we sometimes do not have the resources to pay a person to be dedicated to the host position. It’s a question of balancing service with costs, with costs inevitably being paid for with higher menu prices.

When there is no host, the responsibility is shared by the waiter or manager. If you were forced to wait 40 minutes at the door, even if you had no reservation, that is too long. It sounds like there must have been bad communication between you and the person responsible for getting you a table.

Of course, 8 people simply can’t fit at a table for four. I simply don’t understand what happened here.

Finally, we had a policy of serving a specially prized Sundae sampler that comes with M And Ms for which there are “no substitutes”. While the M and Ms ARE NOT the peanut variety, they may have come in contact with peanuts. They should simply have been replaced with Smarties. Our mistake, and perhaps the most important one of the night. Sorry, and we have revised our policy by serving the dessert with Smarties instead of MMs.

We DO hope you continue to frequent our restaurant. Sorry and thanks again for having been a loyal customer.

I am very disappointed with this restaurant. My husband and I were told by good friends that the atmosphere and food were A1. We arrived at 6:10 PM to the 1/2 filled retro diner – it looked great. We did not get served our food until 7:35 PM; no explanation, no apology. In fact, the waiter really lacked any empathy for us – the very customers he was serving (we refused to leave him a tip). We have experienced “West Island” snobbitude, but this was very special. We asked to see a manager, and when he arrived his phone rang. He walked off to take his call and never came back.
Our food was so-so; my burger was very greasy and very cooked – overcooked actually. I did not eat any of the twisty fries – grease traps. I must say that the decor was outstanding, and I had a really excellent shake. I do not recommend this restaurant – it compares to big-box fast food for quality, and lack sufficient customer service.

      Hi Yvette,

Thanks for taking the time to write.

Our median wait time for getting a burger is about 14 minutes from when the order is placed. The average is about 16 minutes. It sounds like your order was lost, and that is a shame. Sorry.

We are not comparable to a fast food chain. Fries, which are fried, can be replaced by potatoes, salad, coleslaw, all of which are home made and grease free. Sorry you didn’t like them. They have a large surface area to weight ratio, which May not have
      been to your liking.

That our manager did not field your complaint is not acceptable to us owners.
      He has been spoken to.

Glad you liked the shake and decor. Sorry about the rest, and I hope you can try us again and get the Jukebox Experience your friends told you about.

Finally an event restaurant in the West Island!
We really wanted to go out as a family and enjoy something different but have been terribly disapointed of late in the poor offerings in the West Island.

The service was fast and friendly, the ambiance is pure fun! Food was real old-style malt shoppe and fantastic (gotta try the mac’n'cheese.. best I’ve ever had).

We WILL be back and will bring friends next time. It’s about time we had something more than the same as usual.

Thanks Jukebox! You livened up our Sunday!

      Hi Reby,

Glad you liked the food. Sorry about the wifi and Jukebox. The wifi is up almost all of the time, but we have had problems with the Jukebox, which is a shame for the clients, and us, as we spent quite a bit on it.

Thanks for the review, and we will keep trying to fix the audio/Internet problems.

Went with two of friends and we arrived at 9:30 pm on the 21/3. They told us the kitchen would close soon afterwards and we told them we would show up, make the order fast and get out asap. Good plan right! It didn’t turn out so good…
I ordered the bacon cheese burger. (I didn’t care much for the name reference on burgers). My friends the pattie between the grilled cheeses and my other friend ordered the Beliveau (mango salsa+ avocado).
So when we had called to announce we were coming they told us we would have to hurry up and order. We were fine with that. Once we showed up it took 10minutes before the waitress came to take our order and another 20-22minutes before the burgers showed up.
Finally, the burgers were delivered by what seemed to be the manager (his ass was hanging out of his pants) I thought only teenagers wore them below the buttcheeks! Thanks for that! :D .. It added greatly to my burger experience.
Throughout our wait we looked around at their managers and their behaviour. This is what we witnessed.
Someone who seemed to be the girlfriends just throwing herself everywhere and the other “manager” was playing around the dining room with his new video camera and attempting to fake interview some employees. Must you really do that with customers in your establishment?
Finally, our burgers showed up after 22 minutes. One of my friends ordered sweet potato fries and they were cold. The waitress offered a replacement portion which she took the second portion was warm and tasty. Then, we checked our other fries and the top was warm and the bottom cold as if they stayed on the holding pass under the lamp for too long… I mentioned it to the waitress who stood there and just offered more fries… Nice gesture, I like my fries done properly the 1st time. There was no way I wanted more of those greasy fries 2 deep fried just to warm them through again.
Now the piece de resistance! The best burgers in the west island it’s why we came to sample the best of the best. It was like a wet fire cracker.. that sums our experience in a phrase.
The meat was angus beef, no doubt. My burger had no seasoning on the meat so it tasted pretty bland. The bread was supposed to be “cooked fresh” It was at least 24 hours old and dry and not yeasty at all. My friend with the grilled cheese burger was the best. The grilled cheese were done right. The meat suffered lack of seasoning but when you make 2 good grilled cheese, no matter what you put in the middle will be good! 
Now, the “Beliveau” I said I didn’t like food named after people and this is why. The poor man must feel a heartache everytime one of those burgers gets served.. The beef pattie had broke and they sort of tried to hide it in the kitchen. Not so great.. Next, the flavors were so dull and boring (no seasoning, mango not ripe and some decent avocadoes). The burger was sooo bland the only thing that popped was the pickle taste…
Needless to say our quest for the “best burger in the west island” is still on. They are really running with their 50’s concept and that’s great. The place was clean and shiny. Other note: 2 drinks, 3 burgers + 1 extra sweet potatoes fries for 60$. There is much more affordable out there for better (I think of burger de ville in NDG)
Apparently the place gets packed and people love it. Good for them. I know I’m not going to be spending more money there anytime soon.

NOT a family friendly restaurant. Went to Jukebox last Friday with 2 kids and wife; they found food ok, but I couldn’t finish my “Elvis Burger”. The burger was saturated with so much grease and fat – a terrible burger! Twisty fries were ok; unfortunately the burger put me off my food. Service was awful; at one point waitress disappear for 15 mins and didn’t ask us if we wanted dessert. Weird stuff: The floor is very slippery, and we saw two waiters wipe out with trays during the evening. A teenage customer also wiped out and hit his arm in front of us as we left (he was crying!). The music was kinda cool – but way too loud; could hardly hear our own conversation. The tables are 4″ too high for 6-7 year old kids – and they don’t have booster seats?
With a draft beer my grease burger & fries came to $24. Very disappointing – I’m gonna head downtown in future.

I would have to admit..even with the fabulous food the ambiance leaves a lot to be desired….Whats with the music? Do we need the hip hop, dance and rap? Was this present in the 50′s?I found myself dying to get out of the restaurant! The noise level combined with the aggressive music are just way too much and not suitable.

      Hi There,

Glad to hear you liked the food, but disAppointed you found the music so aggressive. Sorry about that, I understand how that could have prevented you from enjoying yourself. While we do play a lot of music from the 50s thru the 70s, our clients have also expressed an interest in hearing modern music.

We are having a team meeting tomorrow, and music is on the agenda!

Hope we come up with a solution that can please our guests as much as the music does.

I was not happy with my meal at Jukebox. I received the wrong meal, my husband was finished his meal, and I never even got my correct replacement meal yet. My drink never came, apparently it was given to someone else by mistake. My waitress never came to offer us dessert. She just threw down the bill on out table. I would have liked a sundae. My husband did not like his meal, but never got a chance to order something else, because the waitress never bothered to ask us if everything
was okay. The place seems very un-organized, and it seems to be only little immature babies working there. I will never return again.

      Hi Samia,

Must be disappointing to not have been able to eat together with your husband, I can understand how that must have upset you.
We do serve thousands of freshly ground burgers every week, so even if our staff gets 99 percent of orders right, we still make a few errors, and sounds like we made them at your table. That being said, I do stand behind the staff, and name calling is not acceptable to me. I’m sorry that we seem to have lost your business, but I am proud of the outstanding work performed by our team on a regular basis.

    Hi guys,

My boyfriend and I had to stop in and try out this cool deco restaurant. It’s a great diner Vibe (brings back memories of the movie Grease). The lack of 50′s and 60′s music was my only disappointment.
What a variety of burgers, we had to ask our waitress 3 times to come back in a few :-) ! I particularly love the choice of home baked buns (sweet yeast) is my fav. not forgetting to mention that your onion rings are absolutely delish. Since your place has become our favorite burger joint – I am trying to plan my daughter’s sweet 16.

    Keep up the great work!

Thanks for the great write up…and we would love to have your daughter celebrate her sweet sixteenth with us…be sure to call ahead to see if we can make special arrangements for her!

The music situation is being looked at more closely…we play music from the 50s and 60s….but modern selections as well since many of our clients request them.

I love all types of music, but, I have to say, I hope you will still have lots of oldies since it is a JUKEBOX restaurant and all that entails. Of course people are going to request up to date music, but, for one fun evening, the restaurant should keep to its original intent .
There are lots of restaurants that play up to date music, but, your restaurant is special because it is retro, don’t cave in. Like I said, I love all types of music, but when I go to jukebox, I want the experience of jukebox…a happy, go lucky place with fun, happy music. As I said in my comment earlier, I have told many of my friends about your place and the charm is that IT IS RETRO. You will lose something if you give in to those requests and believe me, those who want up to date music will still go to jukebox because of the food. Those who love the idea of jukebox and not only the food, might not find it quite as happy and special…don’t know…just thinking out loud :)

You guys opened a restaurant called jukebox and it is a huge success, why cave in to something that will take away part of its glitter…and this is from someone who downloads all the newest hits on I tunes :)

Terrible service. Went at lunch time today with my girlfriend, no hostess at the front, took 10 minutes to have someone seat us, finally seated, waiter comes and I ask him about lunch specials if he had any, tells me it’s a free drink and he’ll be back in 2 minutes….15 minutes go by and he never comes back, there goes almost half my lunch hour. We grabbed our jackets, left and went somewhere else.

I’ve been here several times at night and never experienced this kind of amateur service before. After this, I don’t think I’ll ever come back.

we have gone on many occasions and have really enjoyed it. The music could be more of the 50/60 era due to the name and decor and could also be lower due to the sometime large/noisy crowds being there. We had already gone to 5 guys and still find YOUR burgers the best. One can taste the REAL BEEF FLAVOR , I grew up in the 50/60 era and really enjoyed the decor of your restaurant. (For anyone out there who doesn’t realize this place donates money from the jukebox to Montreal Hospitals )Take a look next time you are there. Once again Thank you for a good burger and all the extras as well

I’ve been looking forward to try this place,,,but when I called today for reservations, they said they were closed since they had a private event happening! A bit disapointed!

I was also reading somewhere on the internet that you can get a free milkshake or drink,,,if u mention a specific phrase to the waiter! Is that true and is that promotion still taking place. If someone from the restaurant can answer this, it would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

Food was great, service was great. Just one thing to mention. Since it is trying to reproduce the 50′s era which I love shouldn’t the music be a big part of that as well? I was not ready to hear rap etc while I was there. Just a thought.

Was there tonight for the first time. Burger and fries were excellent and the service courteous. My daughter had the chocolate milk shake and it was very very good. Music was a bit too loud for my liking. We were there with friends we had not seen in a while and we had to shout in order to have a conversation. All in all I would recommend this restaurant to friends.

Think we are going to borrow your “best burger in town” slogan and use it in our marketing. We fresh grind our meat, which means no mixing of cows like you tend to get from other burger places that don’t grind on site.

The burger was really A-1. Real beef is always appreciated!! Nice selection to choose from, although I could have easily have shared my plate with someone, and ultimately suffered from slight indigestion, my own doing of course. The coleslaw was nice but a little on the sweet side. We didn’t indulge in any of the ice creams or shakes, already had enough calories for the night. Would go back, and I’m looking forward to trying something different. Will be a little careful though, some of the prices for those burger plates are running a little high ($15-17) – the cheaper ones are a good deal for $13.00.

You may have noticed we introduced Chaplin Burgers, quarter pound instead of a half. They have a great taste, but cost less and may leave you room to share a dessert!

In terms of something different, both the wraps and the Portobello Mushroom sandwich are great.

Great ambiance, great food! I don’t understand why so many people hate that restaurant. I brought friends over there a few times and they all loved it. Comparing it to Wendy’s or McDonald’s is like comparing St-Hubert to KFC. For sure it’s gonna cost you more, but the quality is there! If you don’t think so, then you never tasted a real hamburger in your life.

Our salads are top notch, our meat is grinded on site, we have home made soups…and ya it costs a few dollars more.

Of course on our new menu now you can have a quarter pound Chaplin with fries for under 7 dollars. And yes, the bun is still baked in house that day.

So while you can’t compare the food, now you CAN compare the price!!

      Thanks again for writing!

      Hi George (Geo),

Sorry you don’t like our restaurant. Tonight alone we served over 400 satisfied customers, many of whom many told me our burgers, poutines, and desserts blew them away. Perhaps you haven’t visited our restaurant…a comparison to 5 Guys isn’t really appropriate. That being said, i’m up for a taste test challenge between us and any restaurant burger. Drop by, I’ll even pay for the Five Guys Burger. But I bet you will like ours better!

Maybe, long shot that someone may prefer another burger joint. But blow JukeBox away??? That’s trash talk.

Took my family of 5 twice in 2 weeks. Friends went last week…totally amazing experience! Just thinking about it makes my mouth water…the chili Mac’n cheese is out of this world! I want it through an IV! I always take a doggy bag and I get 2 more meals from it! My hubby’s burger was melting in his mouth, we had the ice cream floaters and the smoothies, everything was perfect. the service was good although a bit quick but perfect when you have kids. I TOTALLY dig this restaurant…if we had more money, we would buy a franchise…You can’t compare it to McDo, definitely not in the same category. Don’t go there if you can’t afford AAA grade beef!

Ive eaten there around 6-7 times and though service is not fast and can be a little unprofessional…its still good and friendly, problem with the service is there is a lack of staff on the floor, the owners need to work on that. Second the food is good, seriously..out of all the times i went there, i never had a problem…yes, its pricy but i did see the prices before i ordered, i couldve walked out but didnt! My burgers have always been good…worth 15-16$? Maybe not but i do notice the quality and size is better and bigger than Mcdees, wendys, harveys and wtv burger joint out there! Listen, i really dont believe in giving a bad review on any restaurant unless i have the most horrible experience which i cant say i did at Jukebox, the food is good, not the greatest and the one time i complained was when a burger wasnt really cooked well, the manager was there to kindly apologize and change it right away and not charge the extras i put on it and the fries. That being said, If you dont like something, express yourself and try to resolve it first..if they still cant do it right, then complain on a forum like this but hate reviews are very weird to me unless the food got you really sick or the owners or manager really didnt want to please you in any way which is possible but rare. Once again, i dont know the owners and really dont care as long as i get my food and its good but beware, prices can be a little expensive. If that bothers you, then Jukebox is not for you!!

We were 3 couples and 3 children and we were very happy with everything. The food is great quality, the portions are HUGE, and the decor was fun for us and the kids. The music added to the ambiance too. The service was great even though the place was packed. This place is very family friendly. We went with my brother and sister in law, and cousins from out of town and we were all very happy with the food and the prices. (Why would anyone want to go to Wendy’s or Mcdonald’s anyway? That stuff is pure garbage) Overall this place gets an 8/10. Keep up the good work.

The first time we went to Jukebox, we had great burgers, the second time the burgers were not good at all. It was such a change I was wondering if there is a change in ownership, cook, and/or especially the baker who makes the buns. The first time I ordered the basic burger with a sweet yeast bun. It was like a real sweet yeast bun with a slight glaze on top and not just “air bread” buns normally served in Quebec. As well, the meat was cooked right and evenly flattened the way it should be. However, the second time, the so called sweet yeast bun was not even close to the same. It was not like a real sweet yeast bun and more like a poorly made “air bread” bun that just had something like a sticky syrup sprinkled on it. The bun was a joke compared to the first time. As well, the meat was not flattened correctly; it was thicker on one side and lower on the other side and one part was falling off (which means it doesn’t cook the same). That was just sloppy preparation. So what happened?? Why such a change? The key to a good burger is not just the meat but also the bun. If you use an average store type bun (even if you do cook it yourself), you will still only have an average burger at best. I used to travel all over North America and I do search out good burger joints. It seems this place does have the secret to success and how to make a great burger, but it also seems they also forgot the small subtle things on how to do it the second time I was there and ended up with a so so product. Still, I’ll give them one more chance. If the burger is like the second time, it will be the last for me. Hopefully it will be like the first time.

Honestly, this place is fantastic! Nice decor, friendly staff and fresh products (AAA beef). It is a bit pricey in comparison to Wendy\’s or McDonald\’s but if anyone really knows what their eating when buying food from these fast food places I would be delighted to know as well! Also, the portions are pretty big so if your worried about spending approx. 15$ for a meal just share it with someone… I\’m really picky when it comes to food and I was actually impressed, I usually get sick when I eat cheap food and since I didn\’t get sick from Jukebox (both times i went) I know it was equal to \’homemade\’ quality and not cheapo processed food. PS: Owner went around asking people if everything was fine and if they needed anything, super nice and anyone who says service wasn\’t good is either a competitor or just wierd:S? Hope this review helps and trust me if you go with an open mind you will be pleasantly surprised!

      Hi John,

      Thanks for the write up.

After speaking with hundreds of clients, we decided to make a smaller quarter pound Chaplin burger available. It costs around 7 dollars, including fries. Fresh baked bun, fresh ground meet, fresh sliced pickle…so now while we know. We are on another level when it comes to taste, when it comes to price we are comparable to these other shops.

Finally, we love our staff. I’m not sure they are ready to work at Toque, but they are friendly, efficient, and work very hard. Thanks for noticing!

We were there 3 weeks ago for the first time and it was more than delicious!!! I had read all the reviews before going and was quite apprehensive. Maybe all these comments had some truth to them when they just opened, but in no way is any of what is written here the truth today. I just made my reservation for tonight, and we cant wait to go! YUM YUM & FUN FUN!!!

We visited this restaurant on April 9, 2010, upon the recommendation of a friend (this friend’s assessments have never proven right). The decor is well thought out. It does nothing for the taste of the food. The barn-like room has a high steel ceiling. This make the noise reverberate. Uncontrolled children were screaming. The music is played at a volume for the hearing impaired. We have just returned from a trip to Toronto and and we were blown away by the genuine friendliness of the staff of restaurants at which we stopped. Not so at Jukebox. While not surly, our waitress was definitely not friendly. I ordered a chicken salad sandwich. Uh-uh, not available. I ordered a tuna salad sandwich (all sandwiches come with french-fries). I asked for ny fries not to be salted. WELL , the face she made was as if I had asked her to strip naked. The sandwich was mediocre. My spouse ordered a hamburger with cheese and bacon. It was a large burger and so-so in taste. Both plates came with a huge order of tasty curly fries. My spouse’s Coke came in an optical illusion glass – ie , looks large but is not. At $2.50, one would expect free refills, but no. Lesson learned: never trust this friend’s recommendation again and do not return to Jukebox. It is not worth it

      Hi Stanita,

Thanks for letting us know you had a bad experience.

Every day, we take pride that we run out of some things. Often times, it’s one of our varieties of fresh baked buns. That’s because our buns are fresh baked daily. Old buns are turned into croutons. But the cost of this freshness means that sometimes we run out of things. Sorry it was the chicken salad that day.

Ya, sometimes our place gets a little loud. This especially true when families tend to go out on weekends. Sounds like the day you were there it was just too loud. I understand that that can make a meal less enjoyable. Sorry again.

Our waiters are continually encouraged to be positive and friendly. Sorry that was not the case for you.

Finally, our “optical illusion” come with free refills. We tried to pick a fun glass, not one that rips off our customers. Our goal is to keep all our customers happy, not steal a few pennies worth of soda. We are not like that and it just wouldn’t make business sense.

All in all, sounds like we had a bad day, or at least did not do well with your table. I understand how these things combined could have made you feel angry.

If you give us a second chance, I’ll we don’t disappoint!
