When you walk through the door of the Asian fusion restaurant Tamashi in Dollard Des Ormeaux, you can bring your own bottle of wine. The restaurant features traditional tables and tatamis, Japanese-style mats. You will find the tatamis in a more secluded basement dining room. Tamashi West Island is known for offering excellent service and seating for smaller and larger groups in a comfortable yet elegant atmosphere. It also has a reputation for succulent Asian fusion dishes, including sushi, pad thai and general tao chicken.

Very disappointing experience! Was there on a Saturday evening around 8pm with a group of 12 for a birthday party. Food was half decent but overpriced for the quality. Service was horribly slow. Took almost a half hour for someone to come open up our wine bottles. Took over an hour and a half to get our meals. The ambiance was nice but the service was so poor that I will likely never return. If you want a solid and reasonably-priced BYOW sushi dinner, go to Tokyo Tresor instead!

Surprinsgly spatious, well decorated and cozy. Food is overpriced for the quality of the ingredients/presentation. The actual taste of the food is decent, not the best I’ve had. The waitress that served me barely understood our orders, but seemed like she was trying to be professional.
It’s a good restaurant if you have a “quantity over quality” mentality. Friendly environment, but the food itself is very average and unauthentic. Don’t let the beautiful decor boost your expectations for the food.

I had noticed the new name a few weeks ago and was really anxious to try it out, I said to myself, wow! not a name I recognize, must not be a chain, lets go! So I decide to take my Japanese girlfriend there on a Friday night. When you walk in you are immediately impressed with the decor! Someone did a great job with the design, the tatami tables in the secluded areas, the open and spacious main dining area make you want this place to be your new favorite restaurant.
Unfortunately the experience stops right after you have been seated and open the menu. this place is far from anything authentic, not Japanese, not Chinese, a mix bag of signature dishes from all over. What cook is able to whip up General tao, basil beef and tempura in the same kitchen? The ones that only re-heat things and add canned sauces to them of course. Thai Express is the same if not better!
If you want good sushi.. go to Aikawa or Maiko, If you want good Japanese, go downtown. I will conclude with mention that the young lady who served us was very professional, service was impeccable.

Went to Tamashi last night with hubby. We were both wowed!. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with lots of red and white and plenty of water features. The menu was interesting and had something for everyone. We both had the won ton soup. I love La Perle’s won ton soup but this one blew it away. We loved the soup that seemed to be a mix of Fuji’s soup and traditional won ton but with even more flavor! I need to see if I can order for lunch take out. Then we ordered Shrimp Tempura that came with a sweet sour sauce. I wasn’t fond of the sauce but hubby loved it. The tempura came with veggie tempura as well. Really well done and grease less and everything was really good. I chose the sizzling teriyaki shrimp which as absolutely great. Lots of veggies with a great sauce and plenty of shrimp. Hubby had the General Tao chicken and claimed it was one the best that he’d ever had. Cost for both was $66.00. Since it’s a bring your own wine I brought sake which made the whole thing very affordable.
Tamashi…we’ll definitely go back!

Meal was terrific and service wonderful

Absolutely loved everything about it. Shrimp Tempura is not to be missed!
Service decor, food and price are all amazing. I loved it and will go back many times.

Beautiful restaurant, great food… The wonton soup is delicious, the general tao is the best I’ve ever had and sushi is really, really good. I’m definitely going back! And for those who complain about sushi selection, it’s not really a ‘sushi’ restaurant so their selection is actually pretty good.

I went to Tamashi with a group of women for a girls night out. The decor is very nice and we were surprised how big the restaurant is! Service was decent. The food was okay, not the best sushi I have had, but it was good. Everyone had sushi, so I cannot comment on the other dishes. We all found it was more on the pricey side. I guess its typical of BYOW restos…We all had the coupons 25$ for 50$ worth of food, so it was very worth it. The place itself is nice, and great envoronment for a group.
Unfortunately one person in our group has a severe allergy to gluten which she made very clear to the owner (? or manager) and the server. Her food was returned once as it was prepared with soya sauce and the new dish still made her quite ill.

wayyyyyyyyy over priced..for what you get….whats going on in the West Island…tooo many sub par restaurants with downtown prices….
CuteNStylish , 1-28-2012

Sushi choices are limited. Taste is ok, very basic. A little pricier than I thought given the size of the rolls. The sushi pizza is pretty good. The service could be better, kept having to flag down our waitress. Decor is quite nice as well as the Tatami rooms, that is where we ate and enjoyed it. Overall, a little disappointed. Will probably not go back.

Design wise, amazing! If you wanna take your gf on a date, no problem. If you’re having a party, no problem! And that is for everyone!I love that there are spaces designated for larger groups, and some for smaller…Nothing is worse than going to the restaurant and sitting next to a party of 10…food?Don’t worry it is delicious!!!this restaurant is awesome go check it out!!don’t forget the bathroom!

I would never go back. The service was horrible and the food was not great. When it comes to sushi in west island i will stick to Maiko.
ECole , 1-18-2012

Was there just this weekend with a few of my buddy’s. couple of us had the sushi and found it amazing, can tell that its made fresh when you order as a pose to pre made hard hard type :s. The other notible dishes at our table are the General Tao and the Grilled trio…..oh and you have to try the wong tong soup and imperial roles …soo good. oh and ofcouse BYOB doesnt hurt to say the least…we plan to be regulars at this resto in the future!

I was there over the holidays and was plesantly surprized by many factors.
The food quality and portions are very good and fair for the price.
the Decor and ambiance was refreshing.
The menu gave many options for all tastes. We happened to be a very big group, so I cant comment on the service since I was so preoccupied talking and enjoying the everying to determine if it was slow or not, plus with a large group as oppose to 6 or less people, not sure it’s a fair situation to judge.
Pretty much everyone in our group enjoyed it and would put on there lists of resto’s to try again in the West Island. BYOB is alway fun too.

Went here last week and was disapointed. Somewhat expensive given the quality of the food received. They shouldn’t advertise themselves as a sushi restaurant as their choices are extremely limited. Did order a few rolls, was OK. The main plates were OK also. All in all, will not be going back. I think other Asian restaurants in the west island beat them by far.

I went there yesterday. First I was impress with the decor, very zen. I had sushi (not the best I had) and not cheap for what you get. The service was not good, waiter was rushing all the time and I had to ask him 3 times to bring back some soya sauce with wasabi!!!! then on on a $70.00 bill I gave him $10.00 tips, he ask me then “you weren’t happy with the service?” and told me that I should give him $12.00. Didn’t appreciate his comment especially in front of my friend.

I went two days ago, Design wise, amazing! The food very good.
I will go back.
susan M , 2-12-2012

won ton soup and egg rolls. the service was excellent and the decor is stunning.
we sat in the private booths ,which made our valentines dinner so special.
i snapped pictures to show my friends how beautiful this restaurant is. we will definetly go back.
